I've searched google for the color codes for the blinking colors on ethernet cards, (Marvell  88E8053 to be specific) and can't figure out what the hell the orange light is flashing for. I've tried multiple drivers, and I still grab a 169 address. My other card works flawlessly (Intel 82557/8/9) and well, I just can't find a fix, or the meaning behind the blinking light of Doom!!!! :P So if anyone has any insight on this, I'd much appreciate it.

I believe orange is connected?
and green is traffic?

I'm not too sure but that is what I would of thought.

But the light flickers 0.0 flickering connection would be bad  :o I've tried different cables, etc. etc. the basic things one would try, and I just haven't the foggiest what it would be.

So is this a question on how to stop the light or is your connection not working?

if you want to stop the light, put some insulator tape over it, its what I do ;D, or desolder the light.

Hahaha nah it's not the light, it's connectivity. It gives a 169.XXX.XXX.XXX IP address which is a local address if it tries to grab dhcp info and can't, it will assign itself a local address basically doing nothing better than it was before :P

So I take it intel is onboard one?
Have you tried disabling intel?
Other than that I would say if the intel is working and marvell isn't sounds like hardware issues.

Marvell is onboard, and Intel isn't and yes, disabled intel, no luck. I don't remember if I ever got it working in XP either... Maybe it's just a faulty onboard nic. Hmmm.

I would think that, have you tried it in another pc?
Their fairly cheap now anyway can pick one up for like a 5er or even ask if someone has spares.

The marvell is the nonfunctional one, the onboard :P I have a functional one, but this is more of a find out why it's not working and a fix, for future run-ins with the problem :D

Oh yeah lol onboard, I'm so used to intel being the onboard one!!
I would say your screwed, I can honestly say I've never found a successful way of fixing a onboard nic.

Only thing I would suggest is cleaning the contacts and checking them over.

Disable the intel one, and try rebooting everything, modem/router first, then your PC
Also, check for other software controlling your network card.
Might also try an ipconfig renew.

And for luck, try spinning your machine 3 times counterclockwise. ;)
