For those of you looking to remove the viewstate in ASP.NET you may find this helpfull.

To disable the viewstate stick the following code int he head of your .aspx document.

Keep in mind that viewstate is necessary in ASP.Net pages in order to maintain state for controls between pages so if your using these features this will break your page, you may want to look at compacting your viewstate code instead.
