the xbox 360 is still the same price it was a year ago! I think its because they're allowing backwards compatibility with games. the ps3 will drag on at a high price as well as the ps2 is being phased out slowly. phasing old consoles out slowly just means they can keep selling the new ones at a high price.

Consoles were developed cause they figured out that most gaming on the PC was a poor market cause most people were pirating games for free.
So the console was born from second hand (overpriced) computer components.
Go figure.
(although I do like the Wii, and the PS3 to a lesser extent)
