get VMware for free. Do exactly same as Virtual PC (I think even better for Linux/Unix) http://www.vmware.com/products/free_virtualization.html Or if you are really fancy about Open source, download source file and make your own. http://www.vmware.com/download/server/open_source.html

The destination PC might not allow port 22(ssh) or 23(telnet ). Check that's firewall.
