7  General / General / Support / one more probably dumb question on: October 22, 2008, 08:10:04 am
right i got backtrack 3 onto my hard drive like this -

formatted hdd
extracted bt3 and boot folders from the live cd
copied them over to the hdd
went into cmd then to the hdd then found the bootinst file
ran that to make bootable ( dont know if that was the right thing to do )
hey presto it boots from my hdd

right i dont know if the above way is the right way or if its completly wrong but it boots up and it wont when i run it from a cd and then install to the hdd that way.

my qyuestion is i want to run it as my main O/S so therfore im looking to keep files saved on there and settings so how do i do that am i being dumb ? did i do somthing wrong in a big way Huh lol im reading as much as possible and i am new to all this and i dont want you guys jumping on me for not using the search feature when thats about all i have done for the last day or so just trying to get the bloody internet to work on it when i was running it off a cd

please help someone and sorry for posting a lot just recently but hey when i know what im doing i can help others right Smiley

thanks guys
