why are consoles still expensive?

Consoles were developed cause they figured out that most gaming on the PC was a poor market cause most people were pirating games for free.
So the console was born from second hand (overpriced) computer components.
Go figure.
(although I do like the Wii, and the PS3 to a lesser extent)
