I used to use sabayon, it feels like a beta PcLinux. PClinuxOS is 32 bit distro, there are kernels for it that are optimized for the amd 64 processor instructions but that will not make your system a 64 bit operating system, it probably make it run faster(not sure how much but faster however 64 bit processors very rarely get used fully, I would say it will be faster than sabyon if you get it running ok) Im still on a dual core 32bit pentium so I cant tell you what application support on the 64 bit system would be like though. I would give it a try if I were you though. Just let us know how you get on.
