okay, an IP is setup like this(we'll use a default one for our example) 192.168.1.1 okay, that's setup in 4 octets now, you can take that IP address and say ping it with 192.168.257 using that formula I put up there and it'll resolve to 192.168.1.1 doesn't help much, but if you were say, wanting to tell your friend your IP over chat and others could see, you can use 3232235777 (which is still 192.168.1.1) and nobody would have a clue what it was. Just a nice little factoid
