Buddhism in the modern world?

I do like the idea that buddism has about animals though. helping an animal is as good as helping a human for your karma since we're all beings on different stages of the totem pole and what you do in this life influences the next. In tibet many animals only exist because the bddist culture asks people who don't have much to share their food with the animals.
