Yea you can, I am, but It depends on what you want to work at.
If you get a job as a website designer your mainly expected to do SEO HTML CSS and accesabilty.
If you get a job as a graphics designer your expected to make things pretty.
Graphics designers generally get paid less, and even if your trained as both you will still get more as a specialist in one or the other fields.
Unless your a flash designer, in which case you will get paid more than a regular website designer but will have to do a lot more work.
I can do graphics, flash, seo, backend and normal website deign.
I prefer regular XHTML website design because its the best balance between effort and outcome.
