Well I just found out about the delete anchor point tool using it like mad now so its either that or the wand Cheesy

Depends on what I am doing, if its photo manip for models or scenery I tend to use the clone brush, if its logo and graphics design i am a huge fan of the layer filters like drop shadow, etc.
But I think to have a varied range of design skills you should be able to use everything.
If I am doing somethig funky though I still tend to use illustrator to create some nice vector curves and then import into photoshop.

Don't know if i have a favourite tool in Photoshop........ let me think........

maybe the gradient tool.
