So been making some new designs and I found a great method of making the admin page wider.
First I brought my main widths (CSS) to the page.tpl.php just putting them in a div tag could be used in <style> if you prefer, from their I could dynamically change them using php so this is what i did
<div style="<?php
if(stristr($_GET['q'],'admin')){
echo "width:90%";
}else{
echo "width:750px";
}
?>">
content
</div>
All I needed to change was the content box, as the navigators where floating it wouldn't need any editing so I could just expand it to 90%, 100% didn't look right.
The idea is that Drupal doesn't seem to like 800*600 admin pages, they look better fluid, allows you to manage the pages 10x better.
If you also want to add this to create content page you can change admin to node/add, the idea is your taking important parts of the URL out so it can be detected and widen the layout.
As Drupal don't have a fixed admin page I thought this is a brill quick fix.
