I was listening to someone knowledgable about computers talking about FAT being unsafe I always thought about it being unsafe from the users side not from within the computer, why is it better protection from hackers?
If your running on it, its open am i not right? So why does FAT pose a risk?

Yeah the NTFS file permissions system is more advanced, but that only applies when on a network or if someone is on your machine.
For the most case the supposed improvement in security is not really much better than fat and in a few cases its slightly poorer, especially to set up.
Only really worth it for network machines, and you want to know your stuff, even that wont stop anyone technically skilled.

So is NTFS more advanced than EXT2/3?

Do people actually know what NTFS can do because Ms is closed source?

I think the main advantage of EXT3 is how it fragments the data, unlike ntfs where you have to defrag.

No, they are 2 fairly different beasts, NTFS is designed more with microsofts network heirarchy in mind, where as the EXT system is designed with the single technically proficient user who is admin of the machine they are running on in mind.
The EXT system is more advanced in a few different areas but NTFS is better in terms of network security.

From everything I'm reading I'm getting the impression that Windows are better in a network environment like businesses that have over 100+ people. But it sucks at being a general purpose home pc, which now it seems Mac and Linux are beginning to look better.

Probably because most Linux developers are home PC users where as Microsoft is more focused on big businesses with lots of cash.

In my country, nearly everyone I know use Windows. Although there are quite a number of Mac users here and they are a pretty angry bunch, a lot of them still use their Windows PC as their main PC. Which is very surprising.
