Recently someone asked me to do a technical test for an interview. a simple javascript test they say, I open it up and what do I find.
I find that these people are retards.
Ever hear of JSON?
Its a method of outputting content using javascript instead of say an RSS feed.
Now for a simple web host that wont allow you to run php its an ok idea but I have come across more and more high end companies that put this sort of crap on the main site, how stupid is that.
FirstIts not search engine friendly, google will never see the content on the page.
Second it adds extra load time for the visitor
Third it requires extra processing power from the visitors browser
Fourth Its not as powerfull or as flexible as a proper PHP/XML solution.

In summation, do it properly vis PHP/XML or your company will have to spend thousands if not millions extra in advertising to make up for the fact that your website wont show up properly in google and it will have a crap conversion rate due to slow load times and the fact that these javascript nightmares often crash browsers that are low on memory due to multiple tabs being open.

JSON is not a solution, it  a stupid implementation of javascript for retards who know nothing about usability and accessability.
Stick it in the trash with flashing animated backgrounds and all the other useless crap ideas we have had over the years.

Quite frankly I've never touched JSON, but when you have a perfectly good solution which takes away processing power from the user why would you make the user do all the processing?

I would only EVER use Javascript for and only for giving the user a nicer experience ie through visual effects or even to the point of ajax even though I dont agree with ajax for things like Facebook have you used their site on a shit computer?
Its just a joke, it kills your computer (in terms of speed) and from my experience of that anything that adds processing power towards the user without good cause to then its a little pointless.

Have to admit, I've used JSON a shit load over the past few years.

It is a lot a lot better than XML for storing data, its purely what i use it for trivial kind of settings etc, PHP and XML i really hate with the whole DOM document, i understand it is powerful n' all but its a fucking mess.
Where as doing my own library to manage JSON for simple storage solutions is a lot better.

I am trying to use it at the moment to make minimal database calls, aka heavy caching for some basic data.

Reason i got into JSON was javascript (massive fan of JS now done my own library worked with jquery) thats all based around JSON objects, where it is the only way really of managing javascript libraries.
