I've heard that the SE's treat link swaps as "link spam" and eithe rhate it or don't rate it anymore?
Can anyone confirm this?
If you're supposed to be out for one-way links, how do you get them without advertising???

Well, I have seen sites which do very well for PRs when they do link exchange. Perhaps it has to do with site-wide links.

One way links are given way more weight, recip links are devalued a lot, 3 way links are also good though.

Ok the best way to do 3 way linking is, if I link to your site from one of my sites, you then link back to another of my sites.

but then if 3 way linking becomes a problem won't google be tempted to use their sitemaps database to find out which sites you and your link partners own? In order to discover these linking strategies?

Perhaps we should start a group for 5-way links!!!! No way Google is going to figure that out.

Not a bad idea. There are loads of funky linking tehniques you can use. Personally though I would just focus on content and getting unique inbound links, its safer and easier.

The trick is always to have good content so people link to it naturally.
