I've got my first mobi website up - http://www.peoplefind.mobi

If you go to the website using IE then you'll see it the way I wanted it to look.

When you use the following mobile phone emulator to see how it'd appear on a mobile phone, you'll see there's no colour!

How do I fix it???

http://emulator.mtld.mobi/emulator.php?webaddress=www.peoplefind.mobi&emulator=nokiaN70

Or is this just a problem with that kind of mobile?Huh

Thanks,
Andy

Well thats strange, the small screen emulator on Opera wont render the site in small screen.
Also I notice its just standard XHTML
I would develop something in wap/WML as well for older phones that do not support XHTML.

PHP sniffing script can be found here.

and to learn WML take a look here.

good advice man, check out my new page on the mobi emulator.

looks much better, used a jpg graphic instead of a wbmp graphic though.

how do you modify text color in wml ? the same as html?

The site on the emulator:-

will WML files be playable by all the other mobile browsers since it was invented?

As far as I am aware.
I know that earlier phones only supported WML files with no HTML or XHTML support, then later XHTML and some HTML support was introduced, so I imagine that modern mobile browsers should still support WML, although I wouldnt be surprosed if a couple didnt.

The last wap site I developed was over 18 months ago and at the time WML was the main language used by phones (in Ireland).

Yeah i still know a couple of people with wap phones, and they do support wml same as new phones so html is big no no for mobiles.

the emulators show xhtml as being okay. I'm going to stick with that it just looks nicer than wml.

I'm having some problems with forms on mobiles. IE works fine with it, but the mobile emulator shows a 405 error? Ay ideas? I'm using a php file to control the form, is it php the mobiles can't understand? any fixes???

try renaming contact2.html to contact2.php
sounds like a mime type error.

What sort of market share has tmobile got I wonder?

I figure 2 years before mobile site design is an expected part of a designer/developer skill set.
Its very popular for big companies and sites though.
your looking at up to 3% of traffic from mobile users for some sites I have worked on.
I figure 10-30% in the next 2-5 years.

o2 have been offereing it for £10 a month well something like it i think its limited on minuites though.
But i can't see people posting on forums on a little 2" screen can you?

Only good sites to view on your mobile are sites about mobiles where you get downloads etc.

I did a weather site for surfers in Ireland and we get loads of people using it, only way to check the surf forecasts at the beach.
(and we get sponsorship from Nokia)  Grin

google and live search both have a "mobile internet search" if you view them on a mobile in beta just now. the results are very thin. I rekon it'll take off after christmas (lots of new phones) and will become weidespread by xmas 2008.
