Sounds like a plan, but make sure your link building efforts occur at a steady pace, if google sees a sudden jump in the amount of inbound links going to your site and then nothing again it will devalue the links as being artificial.
Slow and steady wins it.
That would explain why my first website had such a hard time getting off the ground. Every month I would go and find a bunch (never a set amount it was completly random) of motorcycle forum websites and post links to my old board. Lol your username should be SEO king or something.
