All you need is a router, might as well get a wireless one as they are the same price.
My netgear router takes 4 ethernet connections plus wireless, you just jack it into your phone/broadband socket, jack in your computer/s into the ethernet sockets, type in the IP number of your router (normally something like 192.168.0.1 {It will say on the manual}) enter your ISP login and password (login is normally an email address) and your good to go.
You may also want to set up security for the wireless, but this is very easy, just follow the instructions).

Yeah You can use a crossover Ethernet cable to connect them.
you also have to set up intenet sharing on each pc
Windows comes with a built-in utility called ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)
Its not as effective, secure and fast as having a dedicated router but its ok for basic stuff.

Any type of ethernet cable should be fine.
If it says not connected its probably your cable.

Anyway to share your internet just go to, Start, Control Panel, Switch to classic view, network connection, select the connection to the internet, right click, properties, advanced, and check the "allow other users to conenct through this computers internet connection.
Jack in your ethernet cables, give it a couple of minutes and you should be sorted.

you need to make sure that it is a CROSSOVER cable if its going from pc to pc.

Only if you have an old PC.
Newer PCs should be able to handle a standard cable.

These things normally have only 1 usb connection and 4 ethernet.
So you can use the USB for 1 PC but you will need an ethernet cable for the other one.

How is your modem hooked up to the internet at the moment?

A router is the better option as you can turn both PCs off and you dont have to have them both on to surf.
However a crossover cable is the cheaper option, but you will have to have both PCs on to share internet.

i get the internet via wireless thats all i know Wink, problem with crossover cables is i cant find any that are 10m or longer.
so i take it I will be having one computer on to use the other even with a router which i expected unless a usb port on that will allow me to share the dongle Grin. love the word dongle Smiley.
