This is good learning.
Ok, let's say I have a few images on my main page, is it good for me to alt them with the same keywords or do I use different keywords on different images ?

Different is better but having up to 3 examples with the same keyword is ok.

your alt tags need to be descriptive of the image they represent. If you can get keywords in there to then all the better. For longer descriptions use longdesc instead of alt.

I normally just use descriptive keyphrases
eg
img src="logo.jpg" alt="Darksats search engine and IT security forum"

Why not use "Darksats,search,engine, it,security,forum" ?
Seldom do anyone search for an entire phrase.

I agree with darksat.

Its almost impossible to get listed for an individual keyword because every word is used by hundreds of competing sites. Thats where key phrases come into play.

You also don't bung lists of keywords into alt tags like that as its blackhat and google might penelize you for it.

Impossible is nothing.
Hard though,  especially for a beginner.
but Keyphrases generate more high quality users, they are easier to rank for and the user is looking for something specific.
Same with using google adwords
keyphrases are cheaper and convert better.

They dont have to search for the entire phrase.
 Grin

That phrase will help rank for every combination of words in the phrase and all individual words as well.

Oh, that's good.
So let's say my if my site sells japanese green tea ice cream, so my alt tags should have "japanese green tea ice creame" instead of "japanese, green, tea, ice, cream" ?

Exactly, sometimes it also helps to have the name of the site in as well if its the domain name.
