Ajax is quite a handy feature, allowing you to update specific elements of a web page without reloading the entire page.
It requires the use of Javascript and a server scripting language such as ASP or PHP. It seems quite powerful but I have some fears about putting too much faith in it, mainly due to the fact it relies on client scripting being enabled.

Anyone else tried it yet or have any views?

Ajax is cool.
Works on any browser that will run DHTML
The only think is that if your pulling dynamic content off a server without refreshing you wont get spidered properly.
otherwise its a really nice feature, and it can be made to degrade gracefully for really crap browsers.

I can only think of very basic uses for it tho and it seems to trip a lot.  I tihnk Deviantart uses it and they have no end of buggs appearing on the site, such as message counts not refreshing properly and images disapeering from the gallery.  DA is a fantastic site tho and I love the place so don't get me wrong.

I can't think of many places where I would use AJAX because I have no problem with reloading a web page is its doing something on the server.  Its also less requests and connections.

Yeah but one of the nice features of ajax is that it can do multiple connections to a database at the same time on the fly which is great for some data intensive requests.
I see it working well on stuff like checking multiple flights on a website.

I see using it for some basic things to make the website look and feel "cooler" - I saw a website that has the login pop-up with AJAX and it looks very slick.

I would be very judicious with it and not make the site depend on it 100% for accesibility reasons.

I think a directory written in AJAX would hold PR very well.
now there is a black hat idea for you to play with.
