Now the power supply has died on me. Its amazing the prices people charge all I could find was some for $115 are you kidding me, so now I need to either look on ebay for the part or buy a scrapper. I can tell you what though repairing laptops is much more of a challenge than computers , considering looking for a job in it.

payed something like 160 its the PCB board inside. considering buying a spare parts laptop and stripping the parts out of that then i can have a go at slowly building another, only problem is the lcd's are so expensive! ow edit: just found one with a lcd, could sell it on for double the price if it works .

Other than it's convenience, I don't really like laptops. When there are problems with a laptop, it's very difficult to troubleshoot and sometimes even impossible to find parts for it. And it is more expensive than a DIY Desktop.

I've found their to be much more fun in repairing laptops that desktop computers. its more of a challange, with a desktop its like oh your graphics card is fuck3d I'll just order another but with laptop its like taknig it a part, figuring out what the graphics card is and then googling around to find what it is . but for everyday use I prefer to use my laptop as its running linux, I really hate windows and its the only thing I can play my games on and my laptop is broken so i have to use windows grrr.

Laptops are harder to repair and overly expensive as well. Even ones that are designed to be upgradable. I am moving towards modular design. EG, external hard drive, etc.

Its a good challange, only problem is its too time consuming . I'm all for external drives and stuff but I wouldn't choose one over a laptop, unless people are now allowing you to boot your own os from them then its a laptop for me!

I am setting up a remote Desktop Solution for when I am on the go. Storing all my stuff on a server with a 24 hour connection. So all I need is a keyboard, a screen and a high speed connection. Taking a 120GB passport harddrive, a micro CD with Linux and I might take my throw away laptop, or I might just pick up a UMPC or small touchscreen tablet in South Korea or Japan.
