Wubi needs more than 256mb RAM to install!

So I've been tyring to install Xubuntu on a crappy laptop using Wubi as it didn't need a disk but every time I tried Wubi got stuck at 74% storing languages.
Doing some googl'ing I found that Wubi is rather greedy and requires more than 256MB's when I only have 125mb's.

So here is the fix.

That's borderline. It's fine to use it (particularly with xfce), but sometimes it can create problems during installation and particularly with wubi (since wubi installer it's more memory hungry). One way around it is not to install the desktop environment (edit wubi/install/preseed.cfg and select ubuntu-standard as opposed to ubuntu-desktop) and install the desktop environment at first boot as a separate step (sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop).

Here goes attempt no.2, damn annoying as I have to download ANOTHER version of Ubuntu.

Man, if you only have 125 megs of ram I would try to find a simpler solution.
Your probably better using another distro that requires less ram and installing from CD.

It was too much trouble even trying to get ubuntu booted up on CD, plus I think the CD drive was like 3x speed .
couldn't even boot up a environment for it!

Edit: did not work, I will try and install the new 7.10 xubuntu CD

didn't work, know a alternative distro I can use, with good driver support.
I'm thinking about GOS and VectorLinux anyone tried them?

I just read some things and never realised their was a alternate xubuntu kinda thing.
It allows you to install with less than 64mb ram, so i will be giving that a go.
