So for some of the hackers out their this can be handy as a really simple bug, and for the car owners its added vehicle security.

So the idea is to use the simplicity or mobile phone tracking, you can get things on the internet that basically track your mobile phone so buy a cheap phone if your planning on bugging someone you can get VERY small mobile phones I believe 2000 a samgsung was brought out it was super small my friend owned one, couldn't dial but it was awsome.

But yeah so then you can make use of these mobile tracking systems on the web $20 a year to track a phone.

Now as for bugging it for sound, mobiles have this very handy option on it auto answer call the phone and you can hear the other phone.
For stealth, remove the speaker/

For vehicles you can easily hook it up to the car battery, so when you turn the car on it charges the phone you turn it off the phone runs of the phone battery or you can have it running off the battery 24/7 which could be the better option.

Really if your planning on bugging someone you want a relatively new cell phone as you want the li-on battery, old cell phones will not have very powerful batteries.
Also you want to cell the cell as little as possible as calling the cell will drain the battery a lot more, you also want to disable as many things as possible like bluetooth and the screen if you can.

I still see battery life as the main problem, you want the phone hooked up to the car power supply.

its good if you want to track someone for a few days .
but if you want it for simple car security you can hook it upto the battery.
