So I tried 2 wireless dongles and neither will connect to the router. This is just a XP problem if I plug in my laptop next to it with the usb dongle in same place it connects fine (linux).
How do I solve this? It connects but when it doesn't grab a IP. DHCP is enabled.

Do a repair on your wireless network or just set a static ip yourself.

Is all your wireless hardware got drivers installed? And is your XP install 'Sound'?

All the drivers are installed, considering I brought a new adaptor and installed the CD that came with it,
No comment on it being sound, but if it helps I have not updated it at all except a couple of years ago installing a stand along service pack 2 installation. I disable all MS updates and a lot of other shite.

Well see if you can test the dongles on another XP machine, even a net cafe, if they work then I would see about getting a more sound/recent copy of XP. Otherwise I am out of ideas.

Workes fine on 2k, I shall do a fresh install though as I have no clue on what is causing the issue. I've used the XP disk for a long time.

Get the latest driver for your OS? I once had 30 over pcs have problems with intermittent disconnections. Tried a lot of different settings for my wireless router. Finally realized, it's the wireless drivers!
And oh, try changing the channel on your wireless router

I couldn't find any newer than the ones I had. I can't pick up any routers so it wouldn't help changing channel .
