Is buying old domains worth it ?

Let's say the domain already has a decent amount of traffic and page rank.
And how can you estimate it's worth ?

It Depends on the price.
Old domains are better than new ones but I wouldnt mortgage the house to get one.

Having an old domain (over 1 year) is good to avoid Google SandBox. Older domains in general tend to rank higher in Google SERPs.

THe other reason for buying an old domain: Let's say a new highly popular technical product with the name 4t7m comes out > you quickly check that domain and if taken, contact the owner and buy it since your site will be visited, I guess...

I have a old domain which I bought sometime ago.
And only recently I have started changing it and updating the content and lo and behold, Google indexed and rank the site quite well.

But one of the worst thing is that Google seems to love old pages, after a few months, they still have it in their index.
