Ubuntu is a very popular debian based Linux distroPrimarily designed for desktop use one reason that Ubuntu is so popular is that the install is so easy, it can be run directly from a live CD without install, and they are giving away CDs for free. Check out https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ for your free cd.

I think it shows a lot of potential for home use. The only way to go for linux is upwards. As for modding my post, I will have to do unspeakable things to you. or else edit permissions for elite members. Option1 sounds like more fun. Linux is making great strides in home user use. Brazil has over 30% of the population using Linux.

problem is that Windows is too integrated now. No one makes or retails games for linux, which is a VERY big issue for sales. The same goes for retail software.
People don't generally put much faith in cheap/free things when it comes to computers in my experience. I know I don't. I'd rather pay for software than rely on somthing free. Thus the reason I use Windows.
For servers tho, def. linux - altough I prefer ASP and .net to PHP.

Im not the biggest dot.NET fan myself. s for linux, I like applications where the people who build them are passionate about what they are doing as opposed to just working for a paycheck, which is one of the main strengths of Linux. Windows has the budget but Linux has a passionate community of developers.
