Removable partial dentures are usually made up of replacement teeth with a pink or gum-colored base and are color-matched to your existing teeth. If you are missing teeth, a bridge can make eating and talking easier. Bridges also help keep other teeth from shifting into gaps, which may cause further dental problems.
First, your dentist will take an impression of your mouth to use to make a mold. This is used to create a wax or plastic model of the appliance, and adjustments will be made at each fitting. You may be given an immediate - or temporary - denture to wear until your custom one is ready.
Your new appliance may feel strange at first-it may seem bulky and too loose or tight. You may experience some irritation and soreness, and you may notice excess saliva. You may also experience slurred speech, altered taste, and gagging. These are all typical symptoms, but if the soreness persists, your dentist may make adjustments. Never attempt to adjust your bridge yourself as you can damage it permanently!
