How much of an importance is PR for rankings?

Still very confused about PR. I have seem a lot of sites ranked higher with a lower PR than one with a higher PR so I know PR has been devalued.
But I am guessing if anchor text helps, than how will backlinks (for PR) come into play?

Its always PR multiplied by On page optimization.
backlinks are still important though.
Content is King, Links are queen, as always.

PR and SERPs (Search Engine Page Results what means position in Google) are almost not related.

You get PR from backlinks.
You get listed high in Google with keywords.

You can be easily listed on #1 in Google if you have PR0 (for certain keyword or more likely with a certain keyword phrase). Just copy one sentence from your site and paste it in Google and you'll be probably first there for that "keyword phrase".

Well, that's what I had thought. But apparently, this is not the case.
although PR is less of a value to SERPs it still does play a part in SERPs.

Less competitive terms seems to work very well. That's why I am aiming for long tail, you will never know what people will search for.
