Question regarding Google Index

I have a question, why is it that when I search for site:mydomain.com I get different results from time to time.
Let's say my search today yields 1000 results, but previous day it is 1,200 results? Google index more the previous day?

I dont spend much time checking site command but The Number should just go up unless google drops some of your pages from the index.

I have been doing this for a while now, it really happens.
Try searching for your site one day, check the number of pages indexed. Then the next day, do the same. Then compare the number of pages indexed. Different. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Hmmm....I finally understand why this happened.
Google is supposed to have 2 sets of indexed pages. One old and one new. So when you do a "site" search for your domain, it may give you two different results, either the old index or the new index. This is to confuse SEOers and prevent abuse.

Nothing to be sorry for, I didnt twigg it the first time around, and yes google has 2 indexes as well so both answers could be valid.
Although generally google only reverts to an old copy when a datacentre drops a new copy of the page.
