Quantique and Senetas jointly announced today that they have completed the development of a unique hybrid quantum cryptography solution.
Quantique is one of the world leaders in Quantum Cryptography and Senetas is a major suplier of high speed encryption equipment.
This is the bit I love though.
Classical mathematical techniques are used to reliably exchange keys across networks.
These techniques are based on the difficulty of certain mathematical problems.
Quantum physics however provides an opportunity to further strengthen the distribution
of keys by exploiting the physical properties of information. The bits of the key (which
are transmitted using individual photons or light particles) obey the laws of Quantum
physics. According to these laws any observer (or eavesdropper in this case) induces a
perturbation in the photon transmission that can be detected with complete confidence
thus making traditional man-in-the-middle type attacks impossible.
In other words looking at the encryption key causes it to change because at a quantum level observing the data causes it to change.
