PR Leak

I have a site which I use a free template.
However, the template requires me to have a sitewide link to it's designer.
Do you guys think it would be wise for me to pay US$20 to get rid of the footer link or should I keep it and save my 20 bucks?

How much does a PR leak will these links be?

The PR will get divided by the ammount of outbound links you have, I dont imagine it will be a major factor, If I were you I wouldnt worry about it, saying that you could always run the link through a PHP exit link script, spend the $20 on adwords and get some traffic in.
You can always get rid of it later if you want.

And if its only $20 it may be a good idea to take it out from a user perspective.

I doubt this one. if you do link to another site though and it has the same template - duplicate content???

why not just modify the original template a lot so you can claim copyright???

No, you won't lose PR. That page won't lose PR if you have links.
It's about PR flow. I don't want the PR to flow to external links.
