I think it may end up being a novell little "association" and campaign that will spiral up in popularity like that million dollar homepage thing.

I dont think they are a problem anymore.
Most people have popup blockers nowdays.

yeah somtimes. its v.rare tho. maybe 1 every 3 months or so.

Well if thëy manage to get around popup blockers they must really have invested a bit of time and skill.
personally one every 3 months is very good.
I cant remember the last time I saw one.

the trouble is you want to keep the ads out but allow websites have download boxes and new webpages that you've clicked on pop up.

Never had any problems relating to blockup poppers with IE, Firefox, Opera, Konqueror etc.

I honestly havn't seen a forced popup in over two years. The only advertising I ever really see on a regular basis are Google ads.

It is beyond me why major companies such as Dell use pop-ups when it's common knowledge that the vast majority of users have blockers. It just sounds like a waste of advertising money to me.

not really.

They tend to be flash animations on the page and with a bit of javascript to animate the layer.

Them things really bug me i mean they fly around the page argh you cant read anything with it flashing in your eyes!!
their so annoying lets ban them as well!
